Blog: Our Freedom Depends On Limited Government Power

It’s safe to say that the majority of Americans are familiar with their first and second amendment rights. Our rights to free speech and to bear arms overwhelmingly dominate the attention of the media and political enthusiasts from both sides of the aisle, leaving us with no shortage of material on the subjects.

This October, We The People has focused on what we consider the scariest reality of today’s America: radical threats to our Constitution and our freedom. Unfortunately, the biggest threat of the modern day just might be our own government.

Scarier yet, thanks to the oversaturated conversation on the first two amendments and the questionable priorities of the American education system, some seem to not even realize – or care – that our Bill of Rights extends through 10 amendments, all of which are important.

While We The People certainly shares some popular favorites, today we want to talk about an amendment that isn’t so commonly discussed:

Amendment X

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

In layman’s terms, the tenth amendment says that the federal government only has the powers specifically granted to it by the Constitution. Technically, this doesn’t add anything new to the Bill of Rights. Rather, it reinforces the powerful vision our founding fathers laid out in our Constitution to begin with: the United States is a free country ruled by the people, with limited government powers.

This is a critical reminder of everything America stands for, and it has become increasingly essential as our government reaches for more and more power. From demanding oversight of any bank account with more than $600 in it, to a Stalin-esque attempt to dictate personal medical decisions, we’ve lost count of the numerous different ways the feds are trying to take more control.

We The People contends these federal power grabs go well beyond the parameters set by the Constitution. Worse, this disturbing trend of government overreach is threatening to become even more common as the United States heads into the future, putting our freedom in serious danger.

It’s more important now than ever before that we stand up for our rights and liberties. If you’d like to help us do so, consider DONATING today. If you want to see more content from WTP, you can opt-in to our email list below and follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
